Abingdon Fencing Club meets throughout the year at The Sports Complex, St Helen & St Katherine School, Faringdon, Abingdon, Oxfordshire, OX14 1BE, UK.

We meet on Thursday evenings in the main sports hall. The juniors (ages 8 to 16) fence from 7.00 pm to 8.00 pm and the adults from 8.00 to 10.00 pm.

All weapons and abilities are welcome. If you’ve never been fencing before we run regular introductory courses for new adult fencers. New junior fencers can join the junior class as spaces become available.

The Abingdon Fencing Club’s beginners course is an ideal way for adults to start fencing. The course will cover

basic footwork and blade skills of fencing
rules and scoring including the use of electric scoring equiment
introduction to the different weapons

The course session starts at 8.00pm when you will be issued with the necessary equipment. This will be followed with a warm up and footwork session followed by teaching until 9:00-9:15pm. After the taught session is completed you are encouraged to stay on and practice what you have been taught in the class with our other regular club fencers.

You will need to wear a T-shirt, tracksuit or similar loose trousers and trainers with non-marking soles. Long trousers must be worn, shorts are not appropriate for fencing. For safety reasons, tracksuits worn for fencing must not have open pockets (pockets that zip up or have been sewn closed are fine). The other equipment you need, including your weapon plus protective jacket, mask and glove will be provided by the club for the duration of the course.
